twilight 2020: a twenty-one year anniversary Twenty-one years ago, the Seattle Guitar Circle, then a six-member performance group, recorded and released ‘twilight’ representing the first seven years of SGC work in Seattle. After our first release, we kept going: there were also a number of additional tracks written and recorded between 2000 and 2004 before the SGC expanded and evolved into Tuning the Air. This anniversary compilation is intended to represent our full body of work from 1993 – 2004, while also building on the more recent improvisation and collaboration practices of Tiny Orchestral Moments. Side I includes a remixed, re-mastered version of the 1999 SGC CD "Twilight." Side II includes three tracks that Bill Rieflin recorded and produced in his home with help from Derek DiFillipo. Side III includes three tracks recorded for my first box set CD “Knotwork” featuring the core SGC + guests Chris Gibson and Derek DiFillipo. Side IV includes SGC repertoire iterations featuring Tiny Orchestral improvisations and contributions by various global collaborators and guests. The recent passing of Craft Brother and bandmate Bill Rieflin on March 24th 2020 inspired the idea of a new remix and release of this body of work. This project is designed to document and share a vital decade of group work in Seattle, while also embracing and extending the more recent practices and principles of improvisation-based, global collaboration. Thank you for giving this music and these musicians your attention and love. Steve Ball September 30, 2020 Seattle celebrating Bill Rieflin's 60th birthday * * *
